A Bad Bill, an Even Worse Process(MONTGOMERY, AL) – As they make yet another full-court press to ram through their fatally flawed health care reform bill, Democrats in Washington are pulling all their tricks out of the bag. While President Obama holds campaign-style rallies and threatens to withhold campaign support for any Democrat who votes no, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is considering parliamentary sleights of hand to pass the bill. The “deem and pass” or “Slaughter solution” favored by Pelosi would pass the Senate version of the bill without an up or down vote. As if a bill that raises taxes $500 billion, slashes Medicare, uses taxpayer dollars to fund abortion, and increases bureaucracy and premiums isn’t bad enough already, Pelosi and her allies want to pass it without actually voting for it. “This lack of accountability and transparency from our leaders in Congress shows a real disregard for the American public,” said Martha Roby, Republican Candidate for Alabama’s Second Congressional District. “Of course we’ve come to expect the worst from the same people who brought us the ‘Cornhusker Kickback’ and the ‘Louisiana Purchase.’” “The old adage ‘you get what you paid for’ applies here. Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership were elected with the support of Congressman Bobby Bright, now we are dealing with the consequences of her destructive agenda. This is a terrible bill that the American people don’t want, yet Speaker Pelosi is committed to pushing it through by any means necessary.” “We need to send new conservative leadership to Congress who will not only vote the right way on issues like health care reform, but will stand up and fight against bad legislation, offer alternative solutions, and will always insist on transparency and accountability.” ### |
