As More Democrats Bash Obama Economic Plan, Bright Remains Silent

(MONTGOMERY, AL) –   Three days after President Obama announced his plan for another massive $50 billion stimulus, Congressman Bobby Bright has remained silent on whether he supports the President’s plan even as fellow Democrats have distanced themselves from the new spending bill.

“After 21 months of failed economic policies, exploding deficits, and still no jobs, it’s no surprise to see Democrats running for cover when President Obama suggests yet another stimulus just weeks before the election,” said Martha Roby, Republican candidate for Alabama’s Second Congressional District. “What is surprising is that Bobby Bright has yet to comment on this massive spending proposal – even as his Democrat colleagues are balking at yet more spending.”

“The Obama/Pelosi economic plan is clearly not working, and even some Democrats are now criticizing it,” said Roby. “Why hasn’t Bobby Bright spoken up like some of his colleagues? We need someone in Washington who will fight against spending we can’t afford and not stand by as we mortgage our future.”

Within 24 hours of Obama’s announcement, a Democrat Senator and at least three Democrat House members had already announced their opposition to the plan.

BACKGROUND

Embattled Democrats are running away from President Obama’s new $50 billion stimulus bill:

“In a sign that Democrats are not on-board with what was supposed to be a major cornerstone of their platform this fall, an increasing number of Democratic incumbents and candidates are criticizing Pres. Obama's economic plan… Their remarks indicate that it will be difficult for Obama to get his plan through Congress before the November elections. They also show that Democrats are increasingly on shaky political footing on the economy -- the top issue for voters this year.” (“Dems Breaking with Obama’s Economic Plan,” by Jeremy Jacobs, Hotline On Call, 9/9/10)
