Bright Explains His Vote for Pelosi (Again): “I Believe in Giving Everybody a Chance”
(MONTGOMERY, AL) – Voters in Alabama’s Second District learned yet another reason today why incumbent Democrat Bobby Bright supported liberal Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, telling the Montgomery Advertiser he voted to make Pelosi Speaker because “I believe in giving everybody a chance.”
Bright previously said he supported Pelosi because she promised him three committee assignments and millions of dollars.
“Nancy Pelosi made it no secret her agenda included stimulus, government-run health care, cap and trade and higher taxes,” said Martha Roby, the Republican nominee in Alabama’s Second District. “Pelosi has already been Speaker for two years. Her agenda and her priorities were clear, yet Bobby Bright still voted for her and empowered her to advance her liberal agenda because he wanted to give her a chance? Now after bailouts, buyouts, failed stimulus, cash for clunkers, higher taxes, trillion dollar deficits and government-run health care, Bobby Bright is asking us to give him another opportunity so he can try and get it right? That is one chance Alabama can’t afford.”
For nearly two years, Bright stood by his vote for Pelosi saying it was “no brainer” and that he had “no regrets.” It was only after polls showed Bright trailing Roby that he allegedly changed his mind and said he would no longer give his vote to Pelosi.
In addition to his several explanations for his vote for Pelosi, voters throughout the Second District are confused by Bright’s many contradictory positions on issues such as immigration and ObamaCare.
“Congressman Bright has called me a ‘one-trick pony’ because I have repeatedly questioned his support for Nancy Pelosi, but the fact is, two years after his vote, he has yet to settle on his answer,” said Roby. “Instead, he waffles back and forth, at times defending his vote as a ‘no brainer’ while at others making the disingenuous claim that it was ‘largely ceremonial.’ Now, Congressman Bright says he supported Pelosi because he believes in ‘giving everybody a chance.’ Well, I believe in giving everybody in this district a chance to have a representative in Congress who will stand up and fight for the conservative values that made this country great. And that is what is going to happen tomorrow when the people make their voices heard.”
