Bright on Spending: Empty Promises, No Results
(MONTGOMERY, AL) – Despite budget deficits of $1.3 trillion for both years he’s been in Congress, incumbent Democrat Bobby Bright’s campaign said recently he “is already taking action” when it comes to balancing the federal budget.
The Bright campaign sent out a release saying he’s “a leader on balancing the budget and making sure government lives within its means,” but for both of the two years Bright has served in Congress neither he nor his Democrat majority passed a balanced federal budget.
Instead, they increased the national debt by $3.5 trillion.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and this Democrat-majority now have this distinction of adding more to our national debt than any other Speaker in U.S. history.
“Voters can’t believe that my Democrat opponent is touting his failed record of controlling spending in Congress,” said Martha Roby, the Republican nominee in Alabama’s Second District. “Besides introducing a resolution in March that has 137 fewer co-sponsors than the Republican Balanced Budget Amendment and has received no hearing, no mark ups and no votes held, Bobby Bright has provided no leadership whatsoever when to comes to ending the out of control spending that now plagues Washington. In fact, he’s only made it worse by empowering Nancy Pelosi to advance an agenda that now mortgages my children and their children’s future.”
The national debt was just over $10 trillion a few months before Bright took office in January 2009. Today, it stands at over $13.5 trillion, a result of the liberal agenda that Bright empowered and his Democrat majority passed.
“I’ve been talking about getting spending under control since I first announced I was running for Congress 17 months ago and have offered serious solutions to reducing spending and stop America from continuing down the road towards bankruptcy,” said Roby. “In Congress I’ll do more than just introduce a resolution to provide political cover. I will vote to reduce spending and oppose efforts to grow government just like I’ve done on the Montgomery City Council when and after Bobby Bright was Mayor.”
