Bright Touts Spending Record of Pelosi Congress in WSFA Debate
(MONTGOMERY, AL) – In a bizarre attempt to prop up his campaign, incumbent Democrat Bobby Bright said last night at the WSFA Channel 12 debate he was proud of the efforts his Democrat House majority made when it comes to government spending.
Bright told Republican nominee Martha Roby that the Pay-As-You-Go spending rules, which require equal cuts to spending each time an increase is proposed, were good things that the Democrat majority has accomplished.
This self-proclaimed accolade stands in the face of yearly record setting deficits and a $13.5 trillion national debt as a result of the agenda Bright and his Democrat majority passed.
The national debt totaled $8.5 trillion in 2006 when the Democrats took control of Congress and Pelosi became Speaker. Today, our national debt stands at $13.5 trillion, which is over $42,000 for every man, women and child that lives in the United States.
“Spending is out of control in Washington and my opponent thinks his party has done a good job,” said Republican nominee Martha Roby. “The Pay-As-You-Go spending rule is a joke when Speaker Nancy Pelosi and this Democrat-majority added more to our national debt than any other Speaker in U.S. history. Clearly they aren’t abiding by their own rules. Bobby Bright’s and Nancy Pelosi’s wasteful Washington spending is nothing to be proud of and I will fight to stop them from mortgaging our children’s and grandchildren’s future.”
Through out the campaign Roby said she will support common-sense budget reforms like a balanced-budget amendment, repealing the unused portions of the failed stimulus bill, reducing spending to the 2008 budget levels, and defunding, repealing and replacing ObamaCare.
With just over a week to go before voters head to the polls, the momentum is clearly on Roby’s side. She has raised more money than Bright in the last two reporting periods. And since the last report, 48-hour notices show Roby brought in more than $77,000 compared to only $24,000 for Bright.
Political experts also rank this race as one of the top ten House races to watch in the country.
Recent polling shows Roby leading Bright by two points.
