(Springfield, VA)—Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund today announced the endorsement of Martha Roby for Congress in Alabama’s Second District. GOA-PVF Vice-Chairman Tim Macy issued the following statement to members and supporters:
“Martha Roby earned an “A” rating from Gun Owners of America based on her unwavering commitment to the right to keep and bear arms. She understands that the Second Amendment protects an individual and fundamental liberty that predates the Constitution and should not be subject to the whims and fancies of politicians who may be here today and gone tomorrow.
“And Martha will always place the Second Amendment ahead of partisan politics. The same cannot be said of her opponent, Bobby Bright.
“Twice in 2009, Bright voted against protecting gun rights in national
parks, including parks in Alabama. On those votes, he chose to be loyal to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and not the Second Amendment.
“With sagging poll numbers, Bright recently said he wouldn’t support Pelosi for Speaker but would prefer a “centrist.” But the problem is, he already voted for Pelosi. And thanks to her leadership House passed ObamaCare, despite concerns from gun owners that the law could allow the government to use a medical records database to disarm law-abiding citizens without a
trial.
“Under the Pelosi regime that Bright voted for, the House passed the so-called DISCLOSE Act. This bill hampers the ability of groups like GOA to criticize a congressman’s voting record in the months leading up to an election.
“Instead of bringing transparency to the political process, the DISCLOSE Act actually shields politicians from the people they’re supposed to represent. It would be better named the “incumbent protection act.”
“And what of Bright’s claim to prefer a centrist? Well, it’s the centrists who allowed these bad bills to pass out of the House of Representatives! The so-called Blue Dogs could have stopped ObamaCare, DISCLOSE and other unconstitutional bills, but they chose to be Pelosi lap dogs instead.
“Alabama gun owners and sportsmen deserve a representative who will always vote to protect their Second Amendment rights and who will not cave in to political pressure.
“That’s why Gun Owners of America stands with Martha Roby. GOA encourages all friends of the Second Amendment to vote for Martha Roby on November 2.
