Letter to Congressman Bobby Bright Regarding Debates

July 13, 2010

The Honorable Bobby Bright

Dear Congressman Bright:

First, let me say that I look forward to a spirited campaign over the next several months. Our nation is at a crossroads and I look forward to discussing with you the direction the country should go in.

I strongly believe that a series of public debates will provide voters across the Second District the opportunity to hear us discuss important issues and detail each of our respective visions for moving Alabama and the United States forward.

In the interest of ensuring that the voters are informed when they vote on November 2, I suggest that we both commit to at least five debates before Election Day. I hope you’ll agree that the voters deserve the chance to compare our records and see us talk substantively about the issues, not in 30 second sound bites.

I understand and am sensitive to the fact that Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership set the Congressional schedule and dictate when you need to be in Washington. We are happy to work with your staff on finding mutually agreeable dates that work with your schedule. We are also happy to discuss in good faith the format, sponsors, locations, and other pertinent details, to ensure that both campaigns are comfortable.

I hope you will join me in committing to a vigorous debate of the issues.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Should you have any questions, please call me any time at 334-239-8660.

Best Regards,

Martha Roby
