Martha Roby Issues Statement on Tax Day(MONTGOMERY, AL) – Martha Roby, Republican candidate for Alabama’s Second Congressional District, issued the following statement today: “For the past several months, I have traveled the Second District talking with and listening to voters, hearing their frustration about how Washington continues to tax, spend, and borrow, but does not listen. They are concerned about how the leadership in Congress is spending money we do not have for programs that will not work. They know that the end result of this behavior will be an even more unbearable tax burden for millions of hard-working families. Enough is enough. As a City Councilor and as a Congressional candidate, I have been very clear on my positions regarding taxes and spending. In my six years on the Montgomery City Council, I have never voted for a tax increase, and I have fought to reduce wasteful spending in the city of Montgomery. These principles of fiscal conservatism have guided my votes on the City Council, and they will guide my votes as a Congressman. We need to keep taxes low and fundamentally reform the tax system to make it simpler and fairer. The only way to do this is to elect true conservatives to Congress who have proven records of fiscal responsibility and the political courage to go to Washington to fight for the conservative values of the Second District. This is a conservative state, and this is a conservative district, but our conservative values are not being represented, and our conservative voices are not being heard.” ### |
