Martha Roby on the Health Care Reform Bill: Higher Costs, Fewer Jobs(MONTGOMERY, AL) – Tonight, Martha Roby, Republican candidate for Alabama’s Second Congressional District made the following statement on the House passing the Health Care Reform bill: “After months of cutting back room deals and strong-arming reluctant Congressmen, President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic leadership have finally achieved their goal of ramming through their massive health care takeover that will kill jobs and increase taxes. The Democrats in Washington didn’t listen when the American people told them they didn’t want their version of health care reform. They didn’t listen when conservative voices suggested better ways to truly reform healthcare. They didn’t listen when the voters in Massachusetts took away their filibuster-proof majority. They just didn’t listen, and now hard-working Americans are going to see their health care costs, insurance premiums, and taxes increase, while the quality and accessibility of their health care will decrease.” “This bill will cost America jobs, increase the national debt, and use taxpayer dollars to fund abortion. What this bill does not do is improve our health care system. We are facing increased waste and fraud in programs like Medicare, and we have also seen the cost of individual and family insurance plans skyrocket. The Democrats’ legislation does not adequately address these issues. Cutting funding to Medicare by more than $520 billion does nothing to reduce fraud, but it does reduce the access that our senior citizens have to doctors, medication, and treatment. Imposing new taxes on health services and products does nothing to decrease the cost of health care for individuals and families, but it does diminish the ability of millions of families to afford life-saving treatments and devices.” ### |
