Martha Roby Raises Over $420,000 For 2nd District Race

(MONTGOMERY, AL) – Martha Roby, Republican candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, today filed her 1st Quarter fundraising report with the Federal Election Commission that showed her campaign raised $126,734.98 for the quarter bringing her total receipts to $420,013.11 for her 2010 campaign for Congress.

The Roby campaign noted that to date it has received contributions from 841 individuals, including 175 new donors this quarter.  Over 80 percent of Roby’s money thus far has come from individual donors.

“I am honored that so many individuals from across Alabama and the country have decided to invest in my campaign,” said Roby.  “Alabamians understand that the only way to change the direction in Washington is to elect new conservative leadership, and they are responding well to our message of job creation, fiscal discipline, and limited government.”

On the grassroots side, the Roby campaign said it will soon have announced county chairs in all 16 counties in the district, showing a breadth and depth of support unmatched in this race.

Roby announced in May 2009 that she would seek the 2nd Congressional District seat.  She has been named a “Young Gun” candidate, the highest level in the National Republican Congressional Committee’s candidate development program.

The 2nd Congressional District remains one of the most competitive districts in the country, with the Rothenberg Political Report rating the race “tilt Republican” and Congressional Quarterly calling it a toss-up.

In the 2008 election, U.S. Senator John McCain carried the 2nd District with 63 percent of the vote.
