Martha Roby Signs the Club for Growth’s “Repeal It!” Pledge

(MONTGOMERY, AL) –   Today, Councilwoman Martha Roby, Republican candidate for Congress in Alabama’s 2nd District, became one of the first candidates in the country to sign the Club for Growth’s “Repeal It!” Pledge.  The pledge states that Roby, upon election to Congress, will immediately sponsor and support legislation to repeal federal control of the health care system.  In addition to repealing the health care takeover, Roby will support and sponsor legislation to implement real reforms that will lower health care costs but will not grow government.

The text of the pledge reads: “I, Martha Roby, hereby pledge to the people of Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District upon my election to the U.S. House of Representatives, to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government.”

“We know one thing for sure: the Democrats’ health care reform is not about reforming and improving health care in this country, rather it is about government control,” Roby said.

“While they tell us this bill will decrease cost and increase access to health care, what they really mean is that they plan to spend more than $2 trillion over the next 15 years, increase our taxes, and limit our access to life-saving medical procedures.  As the next Congressman for this district, I will support and sponsor health care reforms that implement free market principles to increase affordability, portability, and accessibility while maintaining the quality of our health care.”
