Advertiser Editorial: Roby best candidate for Congress
Based on her proven work ethic and her experience as a Montgomery City Council member for the past seven years, Martha Roby is the best candidate for the Republican nomination for the District 2 U.S. House seat in the primary runoff Tuesday.
Roby, who led a four-candidate field in the June 1 primary with 48 percent of the vote, narrowly missed capturing the nomination without a runoff. She will face Rick Barber, a Montgomery pool hall operator, who received 28 percent of the vote in the first primary.
Roby has served on the Montgomery City Council since 2003, where she represents a racially and economically diverse council district. As a City Council member, she is active in her district, attending many community events and serving on numerous committees.
She holds a law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2001, and she practiced law for several years.
She is a strong community volunteer, having worked with Sav-A-Life Montgomery, the Cleveland Avenue YMCA, the Britton YMCA, the Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts and the Montgomery Weed and Seed executive board.
