No Lame Duck: Martha Roby Supports Preventing Pelosi from Ramming Through Job-Killing Agenda

(MONTGOMERY, AL) – Recently Representative Tom Price (R-GA) introduced a resolution that would eliminate the so-called “lame duck session” from the Congressional calendar this year.  Lame duck sessions have historically served as an opportunity for defeated members and parties to pass unpopular legislation.

In recent months, Democratic leaders, who know that their hold on the majority in the House is in danger, have discussed using the lame duck session to ram their agenda through the legislative process.  This includes plans to pass Cap and Trade, Card Check, and more deficit spending.

“The Democrats in Congress have proven time and again that they are more concerned with passing their liberal agenda than with doing what is right for the country,” said Martha Roby, Republican nominee for Alabama’s Second Congressional District.  “It’s unfortunate that the American people should be worried every time the House is in session, but Nancy Pelosi has given us reason to.”

Alabama’s current congressman, Bobby Bright (D), has been silent on the possibility of a lame duck session.

“I hope that we can count on Congressman Bright to do the right thing and vote for this resolution,” said Roby.  “Alabama’s Second District deserves a Congressman who is willing to stand up to the liberal leadership in Washington every single time.  I believe the lame duck session presents an excellent opportunity for Speaker Pelosi and her liberal allies to ram through legislation that will raise our taxes, kill jobs, and increase our national debt.  We must close the door on this possibility.”

Speaker Pelosi has called the House of Representatives back to Washington this week to vote on an additional $26 billion in stimulus funding.  Rep. Price’s resolution is also slated to go to the floor for a vote.
