A BETTER WAY TO PROTECT OUR FAMILY FARMS
| Agriculture is Alabama’s number one industry and the family farm is our heritage, the backbone of our communities. Alabama farmers are the best providers of food and fiber in the world and farmers will be able to count on Martha to listen to their concerns. Martha knows there is a better way to preserve Alabama’s rich agriculture history, and she’ll support developments of new markets for our agriculture products and will assure that they get a fair opportunity to compete in the global marketplace. Martha supports permanently eliminating the “death tax” to allow the family farm to be passed on to the next generation without the threat of a massive tax penalty. Martha believes our national security depends on a safe and healthy food supply, so our farmers must be assured programs are available to see them through tough growing seasons impacted by drought, freezing temperatures and other natural elements that destroy our crops. Martha supports Alabama farmers and their efforts to wean American off of foreign oil through the expanded availability and use of alternative fuels. Alternative fuels, including bio-fuels, hold enormous promise for our state, and if readily available, can be an efficient, affordable source of energy. In addition, the expanded use of these fuels can open new markets for Alabama’s agricultural products. In Congress, Martha will protect Alabama’s family farms and see that farming remains a vital part of our economy. |
