| Social Security is a contract between the government and taxpayers, and we must protect and honor that contract. I oppose privatization of Social Security. I oppose raising the retirement age. I oppose cutting benefits. I oppose increasing payroll taxes. The Democrats’ runaway spending has brought the Social Security system closer to insolvency. With their exploding deficits, hundreds of billions in stimulus money, and a massive and expensive new health care bill, the Democrats in Washington have taken a bad situation and made it worse. We need to get spending under control, create jobs, and get our economy back on track first so we can begin to address the long term issues with Social Security and Medicare in a serious and bipartisan manner. Any reform to Social Security and Medicare must include transparency and accountability. It’s estimated that Medicare fraud and abuse costs taxpayers $60 billion every year. I support efforts to root out fraud in the system. |
