Statement By Martha Roby on President Obama's 2011 Budget

(MONTGOMERY, AL) –   Martha Roby, Republican candidate for Alabama’s Second Congressional District, issued the following statement on President Obama’s $3.8 billion budget proposal for fiscal year 2011:

“During last week’s State of the Union, President Obama announced a spending freeze and discussed the need to get our fiscal house back in order. Today, the President released his budget, which includes budget cuts and freezes accounting for about 15% of total spending—but also increases spending in other areas, including a “jobs bill” that will cost $100 billion.  Even after the spending cuts, the budget will leave a deficit of $1.27 trillion.

This budget does nothing to address Congress’ out-of-control tax, spend and borrow behavior.  The spending freeze is a good first step, but it is just slapping a band aid on the problem.  Instead, the Democrats have simply shuffled around the money to their pet projects under the guise of growing jobs and reforming healthcare.  Unfortunately, we’ve already seen their plans for these issues.  Several billion dollars later, we know that the Democrats’ job plans don’t create jobs and that their health reforms don’t reform anything.

This is why I’m running for Congress.  We must significantly reduce our spending and address the enormous national debt, while also addressing the serious economic issues that our country is facing.  We must allow the private sector to grow jobs, and we must reform health care by returning control to individuals.  That is how we’ll get our country back on track.”
