Statement by Martha Roby Regarding House Republicans’ Health Care Bill(MONTGOMERY, AL) – Martha Roby, Republican candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, released the following statement after House Republicans unveiled their health care reform legislation:“When the House Democrats released their healthcare reform bill, I made it very clear that I would oppose legislation that would establish a public option, or any other form of government-run healthcare. I highlighted the fact that Speaker Pelosi’s healthcare plan would cost nearly $900 billion over the next ten years – an expense that would be paid for by taking more money from the pocket of the American taxpayer, and by cutting Medicare coverage for our senior citizens. I also noted that Speaker Pelosi’s plan would result in significant job losses due to the creation of overwhelming taxes to be imposed on small businesses.” “I am proud to say the common-sense health care plan offered today by House Republicans moves the debate over healthcare in the right direction – toward true reform rather than toward expensive government bureaucracy and additional entitlement programs. The plan seeks to implement free-market solutions that will lower healthcare costs for all Americans. Additionally, the GOP plan preserves jobs, does not raise taxes on working Americans and small businesses, and does not cut necessary spending for Medicare.” “The Republicans’ plan also:
“These are principals I have advocated as a candidate for Congress. The House Republicans’ plan offers realistic solutions to many of the problems that our healthcare system currently faces and works to maintain the quality of care and services while lowering costs to taxpayers, employers, and patients. If House Democrats are serious about making healthcare more affordable, portable, and accessible for all Americans, then they will allow the bill unveiled today to be debated and considered in the U.S House of Representatives.” |
