The Stimulus at One Year: Where are the Jobs?

(MONTGOMERY, AL) –   Martha Roby, Republican candidate for Alabama’s Second Congressional District, issued the following statement on the one year anniversary of the $787 billion stimulus package being signed into law:

“A year ago today, President Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus package into law, promising the American public that the spending would create jobs and bolster our economy.  One year later, I have one question: ‘Where are the jobs?’ After billions of dollars have been spent, the economy is stuck in neutral, we’ve lost millions of jobs, and unemployment hovers around 10%. Even though the stimulus has clearly failed to improve our economy, the Democrats in Washington want to borrow more and spend more, putting us and future generations even further into debt.  When will they realize that more government and more spending are simply not the answer?”

“As your Congressman, I pledge to offer and support economic solutions that stop the tax, spend, and borrow behavior, and instead focus on getting government out of the way so that private industry can create jobs and economic opportunity in our communities. We need to create jobs, but there’s a better way to do it.”
